Read this whole e-book, and at the end are business ideas to make you money!

This search engine e-book is like sitting beside me at my desk for about 4 hours while I show you things I have learned about search engines and searches. Some of it is very basic, some is not!  Some of my philosophy is thrown in. I hope it is helpful.  It is released in 2 parts, with Part 2 not yet released.

Using the Search Engines Strategically!

I have worked on the Internet at marketing for so long I have forgotten more than I can now remember.  We kind of take for granted our accumulated knowledge.  Sometimes, I get surprised at what I can do, without even thinking about it much.  One skill I picked up is searching on search engines. I would like to pass some of that on.

Some of you will already know much of this.  Just remember if you do know it, most people don’t, so it is a good book to resell.  Also, this is abstract information.  It is not real black and white, or easy to relay.

What benefits might you receive here?

It can definitely save you time to have a better understanding of search engines.  Time is money, so if you save time, this is valuable in that way.

Next, you can help friends and family, or your children with homework.  Since the average person is somewhat computer or Internet illiterate, they will be impressed by your skills at searching.

Next, you might consider charging money to find people, places, events, things and etc.   There is a potential income here.  Imagine charging a $25 retainer, for one hour’s work, and find something or someone for someone successfully and then charge them $75 more for the remainder of your time and trouble.

Lastly, you can find out business strategies, special secret information, and who is who and what is going on online or offline, so this can add to your competency level and knowledge level in many areas.

A Real Story

I met a man in his 40’s who never met his own dad.  He had been searching for him for over 20 years.  I said 20 years of searching.  His dad was a well off businessman and traveler who had been all over the world.  I asked for his dad’s name, how old he might be now, what his profession was, and where he was born and raised.  The next day, I went to Google, and did a simple search.  Strike one.  I added another fact to the search.  Strike two.  I added a long shot of a fact.  It was a home run.  I found the guy. He had died a year ago.  This search took me 3 minutes.  If I had charged $100 for this, which I didn’t, (it was free) I would have made $2000 per hour.  Unfortunately, this man will never meet his dad.  But at least he can stop searching and have some closure.

Maybe right now you can see some benefits to sharpening your search engine searching skills.  One more benefit to understanding searching online by search engine is that your ability to use keywords and promote web pages gets enhanced as then you are on the other side of the coin, wanting to get found in search engines.  A good searcher makes a good marketer by search engine.  I will discuss that a little here too.

Hopefully, a light bulb has lit in your thinking.

Google

My favorite SE is Google, as I feel they are indexing much more data than anyone else.   I do use Yahoo, Ask and MSN, and a few others, but most of my searching is done at Google.  If you fail to find something in Google, try Yahoo. They do index a little bit differently than the other.

Using Question Search Engines

The question search engines like ask.com are really not capable of reading your questions, they are just looking at your keywords also, but they give you the illusion that a whole typed out question is something you should do.  I never do it.  For goodness sake, it is a robot machine, and using good grammar and complete sentences as you would do with a person is just not necessary.  Don’t waste the time.

All Knowledge Coming Together

I am somewhat philosophical about search engines.  They are most impressive, and they are the part of the World Wide Web that is the most high tech, and amazing to use.  Imagine all of man’s knowledge getting collected into mass banks for the average person to access.  In science fiction, like maybe Star Trek, the explorers would visit strange new worlds and download the planet’s knowledge database, and in them have cures and answer and great solutions.  It seems our own planet is becoming a science fiction phenomenon, except now it is a reality.  As a Christian, the Internet and the information technology usage poses some interesting thoughts.  God is Omniscient, which means all knowing. Believers have known this for ages.  It now seems he has a competitor in the web.  I am not saying it even comes close to His knowledge or abilities, what I am saying is that people may not need to seek Him for answers as much as they used to if natural answers are at their fingertips.  God states in scripture that He is a jealous God.  I am not predicting this, or starting a doctrine, but wouldn’t it be something if we got up one morning and the web just didn’t work and know one knew why.  I am not sure I have a scriptural basis for putting that to my readers, except maybe the story of the Tower of Babel in the book of Genesis.  That was one time when man was too smart for his own good, and made too many accomplishments on his own without giving God the credit.  It seems we are heading there again.  For my readers that are Christians, my advice is to stay humble, keep a steady prayer life, and turn off the Internet for a few hours a day of your free time.  Do not be too consumed with it.  And definitely do not leave behind the practice of depending on God for answers and wisdom and knowledge.  If you take that advice, then by all means use the Internet to the max.  I believe God helped develop the net for His purposes. A born again Christian actually invented the computer.

Basics of Searches

My style in searching on the search engines is to not always use the advanced search functions, although things I do are advanced.  I also usually don’t search within a search as they suggest.  If you think about it, if you do a general search and do not find the answer but rather get too much data, then targeting the data you found may take you outside the answer, or away from the answer when you add more strategic keywords.

Example:  If you search for a specific doctor named Smith who specializes in cancer patients and who uses unorthodox methods, and use the words oncology doctors, unorthodox methods, and smith and you get 7000 doctors, but not the one you want, now you must add another keyword.  If the next keyword is used in the smaller 7000 search, or a search within a search, you are excluding million of pieces of media information that the next keyword you add might apply to in combination with the rest.  If you re-run the original search, you have a better chance to hit pay dirt.  This may be hard to grasp, but let’s say the next keyword is New York that you plan to use, so that location in conjunction with oncology doctors used in a general search may yield better results than using that combination in the 7000 results.  If you still have thousands of results after adding the word New York, then you bring the person you are looking for closer to the top results with each strategic keyword you add. If you still do not understand, then simply follow this rule: re-search from the start each time you change parameters which search the largest possible data instead of searching within your search.

My Land Development Experience

In 2004 through 2006, I was helping land owners sell land.  Some of the land was development land for residential and commercial builders and firms.  I was able to do what many real estate agents could not do.  I could find the right contact in the building firms on a national level and often have their email address and a phone number after a short while.  This contact person was in charge of land acquisition.  About the time I got really good at this, the market collapsed and the builders quit buying.  I will pick this up again once the market turns around.  Having a skill with search engines can serve you to really specialize in something, and make amazing finds of contacts. Being good at searches can make you look like a genius.

Try an Exercise

This may be overly basic for some.  Put your first and last name in a google.com search box.  Leave out the middle initial and use no quotation marks.  Hit search, and see how may come up or if it comes up at all.  Then, if many come up, add another word or two, like maybe the name of your firm, or a project you are marketing, and see what comes up.  This can shoot your name right to the top often.  If you are new online, then use someone else.  Use my name, Greg Nichols, and see what happens.  You probably won’t see me in the many thousands of choices. Now, add the letters mfn behind my name, a space apart.  I tried it and got a couple thousand results, with many of them mine.  See how we found me?  There are many Greg Nichols, but only one who has a firm called mfn. We used no quotes at all. I call this keyword progression in searching.

Specific Generalities

Yes you are right, that is an oxy moron phrase.  But if you get what I mean, you must keep honing your generalities to more specifics while staying general in scope.  Here is an example.  At Google, put in Noah’s Ark.  See the results, and how many items you get.  Now input Noah’s Ark photos and see the results.  Now put in Noah’s Ark satellite photos and see what happens.  Now put in Noah’s Ark satellite photos 2006 and see what happens.  Now put in Creation science and Noah’s Ark satellite photos 2006.  Each time, count the number of results.  Each search is narrowing.  As you keep adding new ideas that come from your own creative searching, you are honing in.  By the way, you just did amazing research for your kids or grandkids science project, (in certain schools) and you did it in a few minutes.

See the search results pasted here:

My New Business Contact in Home Loans!

I recently used search engines to greatly enhance my offline business.  I needed an FHA lender to handle some loans and did a national search, and by getting specific in my generality, I found one in my city with a like minded work plan, and one that had resources I needed, and one that was looking for a real estate agent at the moment to help them get busier using some new technology.  It is costing me nothing.  Without the search engine, I would have never met them.  This will make me thousands extra per month.

Unlimited Search Uses!

The kinds of searches you can do are only limited by your own imagination.  I have a big imagination, so I can think up all kinds of ways to use search engines and all kinds of interesting searches.  Don’t tell me I can’t find someone or something, I take it as a challenge.

The Web a “How to” Bonanza!

Insert this in your Google search box.  Videos of tying fly fishing lures.  See what happens.  I found 103,000 results.  Maybe you don’t like fishing.  Try how to knit a pair of socks.  I found 178,000 entries.  You can find “how to” on anything, be it good or bad.

Events

Try this in Google:  Castroville artichoke festival.  I got over 4800 results.  Try this: Civil war reenactments at Gettysburg.  There are 26,000 results.

Finding a Firm

I ran a search on The Networkers Edge in quotes. Below, I explain about quotes. I got 554 results.  I pasted the first page of the results below. In marketing this e-book, you need to get your replicated page into search engines. I will share some ideas and keywords to help you see how. You can find the firms you are in now at Google. Put the firm in quotes and put your name outside the quotes to see if you come up.

More on Finding People and Using Quotes!

I said before that I found a man, now deceased and ended a long search for someone.  The key was in knowing he was from Boston. The death record popped up when I input Boston.  I used quotes on this guy’s name only.  I don’t like quotes very often, but will use them on names.  My own dad died in 1996 before the information age explosion.  This should make it really hard to find him.  But if I input his name, and middle initial, Vernon Albert Nichols with no quotes, I get 800,000 results and I am no closer to finding him, unless I want to look through 800,000 links.  But, if I add the quotes, “Vernon Albert Nichols” I get one result and it is him, and his genealogy.  I have no idea who put it online, but it reveals he is deceased and it give his birth date.  The ability to find people alive or dead will only be enhanced each year as the technology improves.  No quotes on the name give all the names with Vernon, all the names with Albert and all the names with Nichols.  That is a poor search.  The quotes give the power to sift to the exact name.

Maybe You Can Find People For Cash Earnings!

Here is an additional income source if you wish. People not Internet savvy will not be able to do this which makes you a potential help to them.  I believe it to be worth $100 at least. I cannot always find people, but often I can.  One way is no money up front, but withhold the answer until paid. Or, as my first page said, $25 to begin, non refundable if you fail, and $75 or more at the end if you succeed. You can do this for people you know, or others you don't know by marketing the service. You should not fail often, here are a few firms that you can fall back on, and you pay them a few bucks, then get paid more by the customer and make a profit.

Set Up Your Own Publishing Information Business

Find out hot topics, about people, places or things and collect the information and assemble it into a nice PDF file or website. Then, sell it!  Charge $2 at PayPal and keep the information updated. Using search engines can make you an expert on anything. From recipes to how to do things, from vacation spots to ghost stories about haunted houses, the sky is the limit.  You could set up dozens of these kinds of e-booklets and sell them online through search engines.

If you sell 100,000 copies of a $2.00-$3.00 e-booklet, you just earned almost $200,000-$300,000. And you never had to send anything out or copy anything or pay for any printing, you just delivered the e-booklet instantly online.

How about camping sites, or hiking sites, or Bigfoot sightings, or cavern locations, or firms that provide race car parts, or anything.  The web is a goldmine of information for the enterprising person. But you must focus, be open and be industrious. Try watching a little less TV and work a little at getting wealthy.

You could make over a million dollars doing this. This money making idea is worth what you paid for my $0 product, even if you don't resell it. Between this and the missing person idea, I have shown you ways to profit from being a search engine expert in finding things.  See more on this idea in a newer e-book I wrote at http://themfngroup.com
