For 3 decades, I have been a J.R.R.Tolkien fan.  I became a fan in the 1970's.  Imagine my surprise and delight when God finally showed me the deep Biblical symbolism and message in these works.  I believe that these novels, movies and characters are laced with messages of redemption, salvation, honor, love, self sacrifice, courage, humility and Godly character.  If you do not believe me, I challenge you to order this e-book, and find out for yourself.

Does Frodo's quest parallel the redemption of man? Does the ring seem to be a symbol of the sin of man? Is the call of a ring bearer (Frodo) and a sin bearer (Jesus) similar?

Do the elves seem like God's angels? They live thousands of years, they help man, they have great battle stealth and they seem to have powers beyond humans.  They also cannot die except in battle, but not from disease! 

 

The men of Middle-Earth unite from Gondor, and from Rohan, led by Aragorn in an attempt to fight and vanquish evil.  Is this what the Church of Jesus Christ must do on Earth?

Aragorn is a humble, battle sturdy man of simple means, and he is a king not yet on his throne.  He is destined for greatness, and people follow him because of his bravery.  He is the king the movie title speaks of, The Return of the King.  Basic Christian doctrine has Jesus returning.  What message do we see here?  Is Aragorn symbolic of Jesus?  No, Jesus did not love a woman, in a romantic way, or lop off heads with a sword, but King David did.  Every theologian will tell you that King David  is a symbol for Jesus.  It is interesting to note that David wandered as a forsaken man before he became king.  Here is a thought.  Why did the movie costume people make Aragorn look like Christ?  Viggo Mortenson does not in real life.
